Nigeria To Generate 6000 MegaWatts Of Electricity By March— VP Osinbajo

The Vice President Of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, while speaking at the commissioning of a new 240 MW Hydro-power plant in Kaleta, Guinea, said Nigeria plans to distribute 6000 MW of electricity in the first quarter of 2016.

The commissioning which was part of the activities marking Guinea's 57th Independence anniversary coming up on October 2 had several West African leaders in attendance.

The event was witnessed by the embattled President of Congo Sassou Nguesso whose attempt to change the constitution of his country to remain in power has been met by street protests and mass outrage.

The leader of Niger Republic, Mohamadou Issoufou, was also in attendance.

There were also representatives from the governments of China, France and the UAE among other.

Osinbajo commended the vision of the Guinean President, Prof Alpha Conde and noted that the commissioning of the power plant is a "monumental accomplishment" in a short time.

"It shows what can be done with commitment and vision," he said, according to a statement by his spokesman Laolu Akande.
