The Vanguard reports that Imo State Police Command has commenced full scale investigation into the gruesome murder of a widow, Mrs. Fidelia Ofenze, in a border community between Isiala Mbano and Ehime Mbano local government areas of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, who confirmed the incident yesterday in a telephone interview, however, said that at the time of the press interview, no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
His words: "The Police command actually received a report on the gruesome murder of the woman by unknown persons. The police was told that the woman was killed in a bush and covered with green leaves.
''We are still on top the case but as at the time of the press interview, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident."
He appealed to anybody with useful information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of the dastardly act, to confide in the Commissioner of Police, his Deputy or the PPRO, adding that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
Investigations revealed that the late woman went to her farm to fetch some firewood but was attacked by the assassins.
"The harmless woman was brutally murdered by the assassins. She was given a deep cut on her neck and the head. The matter is now with the police", a villager, spoke on strict grounds of anonymity.
Spirited efforts made to reach the traditional rulers of Umueze 2 and Alainyi Owerri, Obollo autonomous communities for their comments on the issue, failed as they were said to be out of their palaces at the time of going to press.
